The Parish Council met on 16 March 2009 when all members were present. It was reported that the tennis court nets were beginning to fray and it was agreed to purchase new nets. Additionally, funding has been obtained from the County Council to buy six new coffee tables for communal use in the Church. Discussions are taking place to improve the village web site which hopefully will enable information from the Council to be more widely disseminated, and the Kirkby Overblow notice board, which was vandalised earlier in the year, has been repaired .Sam Hesselden Ltd. has again won the grass cutting contract for the two villages. About half the cost of this work is met by the County Council. Following receipt of a planning application to provide a new agricultural holding on Swindon Lane, it was decided to hold a public meeting to hear the views of residents, many of whom had expressed concerns and who were opposed to the development. The meeting on 16 April was attended by about 40 villagers and confirmed that the overwhelming majority of those present were against the scheme. Subsequently the Parish Council, at an extra ordinary meeting on 20 April, voted unanimously to oppose the scheme and gave a number of reasons to support its objection. The application is likely to be considered by the Borough Council Planning Committee at its meeting on 26 May and it is expected that a number of residents will be making individual objections to the proposals. At the same Parish Council meeting, it was decided not to object to an application to extend South View Farm on Swindon Lane. The Annual Village Meeting, followed by the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council will be held on 18 May 2009 in the school hall starting at 8.00pm. All residents are invited to attend these meetings as well as the next ordinary meeting on17 July, again commencing at 8.00pm. Alan Benton
